Velvet Elvis: Repainting the Christian Faith

  • Author: Rob Bell
  • ISBN: 0310273080
  • Publisher: Zondervan Publishing House

It is coming to the end of the summer, and time to get ready for the Autumn term - and what better time to take a close look at how we make our faith work as lifestyle?

In Velvet Elvis (and I’m not going to explain the title - read the book) Rob Bell, the founding Pastor of Mars Hill Bible Church in Grand Rapids, Michigan, looks at the way that Christianity needs to be kept fresh in each generation. Questions must be asked, and as you get answers they lead on to more questions. And it is really OK to ask questions - even the difficult questions.

On the surface it is an easy book to read - short chapters, easy words. But you will find (as one reviewer described it) that it is a short read - but a long think!

For another review of the book see http://www.theooze.com/articles/article.cfm?id=1278″:

Rob Bell is an excellent teacher with a clear understanding of scripture and a fresh approach to telling the old, old story. I download his sermons. I have learned more from him in recent months that anyone else. My students are sick of hearing about him. In short you should read this book!
