David: Ran to Battle
Not everyone who runs is running away from something!
David (later King of Israel) was a young shepherd boy who took on the champion of the Phillistines – by any measure it is an unfair battle.
(The story is in the Old Testament in 1 Sam 17.)
There are some things in our society that are big and scary: on the face of it, there seems to be an similar unequal battle. So do we run away from the fight? Knowing that God is with us; that He has a plan, like David we can run into the battle.
- David knew who he was – didn’t need extra bits and pieces.
- He knew he committed to the fight – so he ran into it.
- He knew that he had God with him.
