<itunes:summary>In 1 Thes 5:12-24 Paul tells us to hold our church leaders in the highest regard because of their work. It is important to hold everybody who is part of our church in the highest regard - including the leader. Not because the leader is any "better" - in fact if anyone thinks that they are qualified to lead a church is probably not suitable! What we are qualified for is to be a disciple, a learner - being actively engaged at becoming more like Jesus.

What do we need to learn as a church?

	be patient with everyone
 	encourage the timid
 	help the weak

Mosaic (in Thame) and Pure are about training, enabling, and releasing young people to leadership - and this applies to the church in general: this means that we have to allow less experienced people to fail, to fall over, but support them and help them get up again and move on.

A mark of discipleship is that we don't pay back wrong for wrong - we do not deal in revenge.

Paul encourages us to pray continually and be joyful always - what do we have to be thankful for? You don't need to go to the Phillipines to realise how much we have going for us in this country.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>In 1 Thess 4:1-12, the apostle Paul tells us how to live for God ... and the word "live" here means something like "walking together".

There should be a certain restlessness in our walk with God - wanting to get to the next step.
"Philadelphia" - not the dairy product - means brotherly love, a genuine affection for each other - something that we express as a community.

So what does this mean? We need to have a relationship with one another - we need to be accountable to each other.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>"I believe that God has given me a word for you - and that word is ...

Thunderbirds"

There are three aspects of discipleship in 1 Thess 2:1-15 that I want to talk about - and in some ways, the characteristics of Thunderbirds act as a good reminder:

Thunderbird 1 : The father figure - being first on the ground, the leader, the guide
Thunderbird 2 : The mother figure - carries other thunderbirds in the pod - speaks of nurturing
Thunderbird 4 : Brothers and sisters - Seemed insignificant, but risked itself completely to save others
