<itunes:summary>Supplication, or petition, is the type of prayer where we present our requests to God. Phil 4 goes further, telling us to present our petition with thanksgiving, and not be anxious.

Our prayer should involve our body, soul and mind. Supplication shares a common root with "supple" - bending down, bended knee ... but also implies a petition from a lesser being to a more elevated being and in supplication we are petitioning and pleading with the God of all the Universe. </itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Jesus is always active in prayer for us.

So how do we pray? What can we use to help us focus on prayer, or to give our prayer time structure?

Silence, an icon, a tree, a rainbow, a sunset - any beautiful painting or photograph - any beautiful work of creation ... these are some of the things that may a stimulus to prayer. Anything that provokes a response can lead to adoration or worship or intercession.

<itunes:summary>Matt Redman wrote "Blessed be Your name in the land that is plentiful ... " and it is easy to bless the Lord when everything is as it should be, the sun is shining and all's well with the world. And blessings are something to be shared.

But he goes on to write "Blessed be Your name on the road marked with suffering ...".

Reading Job, you may think that he was morbid - but he was a really positive man who know how to rejoice and bless the name of the Lord in all circumstances. Nothing is so high or so low that we can't find a place for thanksgiving.

<itunes:summary>So what is prayer? More importantly, what would Pathway look like if we were really serious about prayer?
Prayer should be exciting - when we find that we are knocking on heaven's door, and the gates are swung open and we are ushered into the throne room of God!
But many times our corporate prayer is not like that.
There are so many types of prayer, so many different ways that we can express prayer as a group and as individuals - prayer should never be boring. Hard work, maybe, but never boring and commonplace.

Pathway is on a journey, and over the next few weeks we will be looking at different aspects of prayer - what the Bible has to say, and what our personal experiences are.

It should be an exciting ride.</itunes:summary>
